At St Paul's School we aim to promote high standards of language and literacy. We encourage the children to develop the habit of reading widely and often, for both pleasure and information. The children enjoy writing and the whole school write an extended piece of text every Friday. The children take home reading books every Friday and bring them back to school on Monday. Each year we celebrate World Book day with lots of fun activities in School.
"English has a pre-eminent place in education and in society. A high-quality education in English will teach pupils to speak and write fluently so that they can communicate their ideas and emotions to others and through their reading and listening, others can communicate with them. Through reading in particular, pupils have a chance to develop culturally, emotionally, intellectually, socially and spiritually." National Curriculum 2014
The grids below give details of the English curriculum and the basic skills for each year group.
